Ten Quick Facts to Get to Know Me!
She/Her, Born 1993, Canadian
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I left Canada back in 2015 to live abroad.
Between 2015 and 2019 I lived in South Korea. After an eight month hiatus in my home city, I started travelling around Asia.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I ultimately ended up settling down in Taiwan. Though it was not my plan, I am setting down roots here, and hope to stay as long as Taiwan will keep me.
How Long Have You Been Writing?
Officially, I produced my first piece of work back in 2012. It was a one woman show called "The Death Test" that I wrote and performed for the Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival. I consider this my official start, however I have been writing for as long as I can remember.
The earlierst thing I remember writing was a picture book about chess back when I was in Nursery school. After that, I wrote my first 50 000 word novel when I was in eighth grade. Even though this novel was terrible and may never see the light of day, I considered its completion a major milestone in my writing journey.
What Do You Write?
I consider myself predominantly a playwright and screenwriter, as writing scripts is truly my favourite type of writing. With that being said, I also write prose, personal essays, and am working on outlining graphic novels.
In terms of genre, I do not stick to one. If I had to name a favourite genre to write, though, I would have to say comedy and sci-fi (together if I'm having a lot of fun).
Where Did You Go to School?
I am a graduate of the University of Winnipeg's Theatre and Film Program. I specialised in playwrighting. Because I live abroad, I try to take classes and network either online or in person (in whichever country I'm in) so I can keep my education as up to date and relevant as possible.
Where Has Your Work Been Produced?
I have had stage and screenplays produced in Canada, South Korea, and America. If you're interested in seeing some, you can look at my online profile.
What Do You Do Besides Writing?
I teach English as a Foreign Language for a day job.
Within the arts industry, I have also worked as a producer, a director, a filmmaker, a video editor, and script editor.
What Do You Like To Read?
I love a good graphic novel and comic book! ElfQuest to this day remains, in my humble opinion, the greatest piece of literature ever written.
In terms of novels, I do love some good Young Adult dystopian literature.
However, if I'm being honest, I am completely a Netflix junkie. I love to have it on in the background while I'm working, and I consider myself an expert in binge watching shows.
Star Trek forever, Live Long and Prosper!
What Do You Do In Your Free Time?
I'm a huge fan of binging shows on Netflix, enjoying graphic novels, and working on projects with my artistic friends. My idea of a great afternoon is lazing with my dog, Tianzu, and enjoying a good story with a box of pizza.
